After this you can recolour any part of a Solo site from the settings form, with no stylesheet and no sub-theme.
Fifteen fields, once per region
Every region in Solo carries the same colour panel, and it is genuinely the same fifteen inputs each time. They divide into four groups:
- General — region background, region text, headings (H1–H3), borders, and form field background.
- Links — link text and link text on hover.
- Menus — menu link text, menu link text on hover, menu link background, menu link background on hover.
- Buttons — button text, button text on hover, button background, button background on hover.
Each field takes a six-digit hex value and nothing else: the input is capped at seven characters and validated against the pattern ^#[a-fA-F0-9]{6}. Type red and it will not stick.
Global first, region second
- Open Page Wrapper Settings and set the fifteen values you want across the whole site.
- Save, and look at the result before going further — most sites need nothing else.
- Open the region you want to differ, such as Header or Footer First Container, and set only the fields that should change there.
Region values win over the page wrapper, which is the whole design of the system. If you want colours to switch automatically by content type, taxonomy, role or path instead, that is the dynamic colour schemes feature and a different video.
What ends up in the markup
A saved value is printed as a CSS custom property in the style attribute of that region's wrapper — --r-bg for the background, --r-tx for text, --r-lk-h for link hover, and so on through all fifteen. Nothing is written to a stylesheet, so there is no aggregation step and no cache file to chase, and any CSS of your own can read the same variables.
One practical note: regions with no blocks in them are hidden from the settings form, so if a colour panel is missing, place a block first. Solo supports Drupal ^10.1 || ^11 || ^12 — theme details here.
