This one shows how to configure a full slideshow — autoplay, crossfades, arrows, dots, progress bar and hero mode — from the Views format settings alone.

Two modes, one format

VVJS runs either as a regular slideshow, rotating whatever your rows contain, or as a hero slideshow, where the first field becomes a background image and the rest render as an overlay with its own position, colour and opacity. The Fields row plugin is only forced in hero mode, so an entity:node teaser slideshow is perfectly legal and is neither rejected nor silently rewritten.

Timing, transitions and controls

  • Auto-rotate Interval (ms) takes 0 to switch autoplay off; otherwise the floor is 2000 ms, the ceiling 15000 ms and the shipped default 5000 ms.
  • Transition Type offers Instant plus Crossfade Classic, Staged and Dynamic — but only while Animation Type is set to None, because the two mechanisms fight otherwise.
  • Transition Duration accepts 200–2000 ms and defaults to 600.
  • Slide Navigation Arrows has five choices: None, Sides, Sides (Big), Top and Top (Big).
  • Slide Indicators can be None, Dots or Numbers — note that deep linking requires one of the visible options.
  • Display toggles cover the slide counter, the animation progress bar and the play/pause button.

Behaviour worth knowing

Autoplay pauses on hover, when the browser tab is hidden, when the slideshow scrolls out of the viewport, and for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion. Swipe uses Pointer Events with a Touch fallback and respects right-to-left languages; arrow keys, Space, Home and End all work.

Requirements before you build

The info file declares core_version_requirement: ^11.3 || ^12 with php: 8.3, and lists three dependencies — Views, Filter and VVJ Core. On a site still on Drupal 10, the 2.x release will not install; the 1.x branch is the one to use there.

Your next step

The Views Slideshow module page lists every option with its default. For the wider picture of what to pair it with, see Top Drupal 11 Modules and Themes.

If your project needs a custom bundle or module rather than a stock one, Drupal development services covers it, and recent projects show the range.
