By the end of this video you can get your site's slogan onto the screen in W3CSS Theme. It takes two settings in two different places, and the theme settings page is not either of them — which is exactly why so many people give up on it.
Where the slogan text actually lives
Drupal keeps the wording at /admin/config/system/site-information, in the field labelled Slogan. Typing it there stores it and nothing more. Nothing appears on the page until the Site branding block is told to print it, so an empty header after saving is normal, not a bug.
The steps demonstrated
- Open
/admin/config/system/site-information, fill in Slogan, save. - Go to
/admin/structure/blockand find the Site branding block. In W3CSS Theme it is placed in the Header region. - Click Configure and tick Site slogan, alongside the Site logo and Site name toggles.
- Save the block and reload the front page.
What the theme does with it
W3CSS Theme overrides the branding template and prints the slogan as <h3 class="site-slogan w3-show-block">, inside the same .site-name-slogan wrapper as the site name and to the right of the logo. That matters for two reasons: the slogan is a heading in the document outline, so keep it short and meaningful rather than decorative, and any class you type into the Header field of Advanced Site Colors colours the site name and the slogan together.
One limit worth knowing before you go looking: the CSS Text Animation Effects section of theme settings offers animation for the site name and the page title only. There is no slogan option. To animate it, target .site-slogan from a sub-theme stylesheet using one of the theme's animate-text-01 to animate-text-24 classes.
Which Drupal this applies to
The theme's own drupal8_w3css_theme.info.yml declares core_version_requirement: ^9 || ^10 || ^11 || ^12, so these steps are valid from Drupal 9 through Drupal 12 — see the W3CSS Theme project page. If you are starting a fresh site on Drupal 10.1 or newer, its successor Solo is the better starting point; on Drupal 9, stay here, because Solo requires 10.1 as a minimum.
